A journey to the end of the world: expedition for carnivores in Iran

From 7 April to 16 April Erwin van Maanen and Koen Cuyten of the foundation joined Taher Ghadirian, Azar Sedaghati and Yasaman Talebi from Plan for the land Society in search of large carnivores in the region of Bashagard in the province of Hormozgan, Iran. During a trekking of 32 km though the arid and rugged Khodobast valley we found tracks and signs of leopard and Asiatic black bear. We also found two rare brown fish owls. A long journey through muddy desert took us to Kavir National Park, a sanctuary for Persian leopard, Asiatic cheetah, onager and gazelles.
